Rhode Island Sauna Society (R.I.S.S.)

This project was built for two main reasons. One was to re-establish the Finnish sauna experience in a city that associates its use with a negative connotation. The second was to test the interest level in saunas amongst friends and the local community to possibly suggest a viable future project with greater scope.

Materials

Behind the garage I noticed ten weathered sections of cedar fencing. Matt and I pulled nails, planed the boards, and gave them a half-lap. Pallets were found and made the structural walls, reinforced by 2x4s. The dimensions were formed. One pallet wide, two pallets deep, two pallets high. 20 gauge metal was found in Pawtucket. It was used for heat shield around the stove. Chapee wood stove was donated by Morgan. Glass door was found in Pawtucket. Antler handle found at the Jacobs farm.
